SGI Image Plugin For Adobe Photoshop 4 + 5 On Windows 95|NT

Thanks for downloading the SGI Image Plugin.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Extracting the contents of sgiplugin.zip you'll get two files : doc.htm and sgiimage.8bi. doc.htm is this file. sgiimage.8bi is the plugin. Copy sgiimage.8bi into the plugins directory of Photoshop. You can find that directory by choosing Prefrences | Plugins And Scratch Disks ... menu item. When you start Photoshop you must find the string "SGI" in the popups accompanying the Open ..., Save As ... and Save A Copy ... dialogs. If yes, your plugin has been successfully installed.

PLUGIN FEATURES:

This plugin reads and writes 8-bit SGI RGB, RGBA and Alpha Image Files. The plugin can read image data stored verbatim or compressed using the RLE scheme. However, the plugin writes image data verbatim.

If the image data contains alpha channel alone, the plugin creates empty red, green and blue channels inside Photoshop and loads the alpha channel as channel #4. The plugin can save any number of channels but other programs reading the file may not recognize beyond a maximum of four channels. If you want to save only the alpha channel, you should delete all the other channels and save.
