The Butterfly Applet

In this applet, you will launch butterflies with a mouse click, control their Number, Direction and Speed of flight.  The butterflies are represented by yellow dots and not animated butterfly images.  Tinker around for a few seconds and you will get the idea

The applet is loading at the bottom of this page.  Here are a few tips to maximize your enjoyment:

Use Netscape Communicator 4.x or Microsoft IE 4.x for best results.   However, this applet does not require Java 1.1 to run.
Set the screen resolution to 1024 | 768.
Reduce the Number of butterflies and/or increase their Speed if you use a slower computer.
Set Show Path to ON if you want your butterflies to leave trails as they fly.
Use the Clean Up button to clean up the butterfly trails.   Also bang this button to stop active butterflies.

And here are a few restrictions:

If you launch butterflies and leave the page, you wont find them flying when you return.
If you bring up an another window right in front of the applet window, the active butterflies will stop flying.
On SGI workstations running Netscape, the butterflies flicker a lot.  I have not been able to solve this problem so far.
